Prosecutors are opposing a change of venue for the trial of the man who has publicly admitted killing Doctor George Tiller to save "unborn children." Court documents made public today (FRI) in the case against Scott Roeder argue defense attorneys have offered no evidence to support their request for a change of venue for his January 11 trial. The 51-year-old Kansas City, Missouri man is charged with first-degree murder and aggravated assault in the May 31 shooting death of Tiller.  

It's a shock when I find insight in a right-wing letter to the Daily News, but sometimes it happens. A Nov. 8 writer responded to the Fort Hood shooting by pointing out that "we have chosen to allow persons with suspect heritage, race, religion and national origin to advance to all levels of leadership in this country." As soon as I read it, I realized he was right: Our national government and military leadership is overflowing with white Americans.

Of all the charges levied against religion in general, none sticks more than the accusation that it foments violence. U.S. Army psychiatrist Nidal Malik Hasan provided an all too vivid reminder of that last week, when he killed 13 of his fellow soldiers in a horrific shooting spree at Fort Hood. Hasan is a Muslim, and though he appears to have acted on his own and without any real intent of making a specific political or religious statement, it seems quite clear that his religion played a part in motivatin

No matter who you are or how good a life you've lived, there's someone somewhere who is sure you're going to hell when you die, but probably not soon enough to suit them.  

Defiant and unapologetic, a man accused of shooting a Kansas abortion provider confessed to the slaying Monday, telling The Associated Press that he killed the doctor to protect unborn children.  

So the news came out today that the FBI got a warning a month prior that Scott Roeder was a danger to Dr. George Tiller.  

Back in June, liberal columnists at the New York Times lined up to link conservative talkers Bill O'Reilly, Glenn Beck, and Rush Limbaugh to James von Brunn, the 88-year-old man who killed a security guard at the Holocaust Museum, and the murder by Scott Roeder of abortionist George Tiller.
